Review:
Abuse, a recent release by Bungie, is a thriller, yet inspires nostalgia, due to its side-scroller ancestry. Definetly the king of 2-D, Abuse relates most to the Prince of Persia family. It takes place in the future, where you are trying to escape from the evil monsters surrounding you. With creepy ambient sounds, and well-refined graphics, Abuse really packs a punch. I first played at a local software distributor, and I knew from my first game I was hooked. I played for a while, and found only one thing wrong- there seemed to be a lack of variety in the creatures you slay. This may not be all bad, though, because I found most of them to be challenging to defeat. So why make even fiercer enemies, when the ones present are already deadly? Well, some believe in the phrase: "the more, the merrier". I personally wanted more, but that doesn't diminish the game at all. The levels are bursting with secret passageways, enemies, and powerups, which combined make for intense and scary gameplay. If you have a good sound system hooked up to your Mac, then this game is a must, because the sound effects are great! For those that like to modify games, Abuse comes with its own level editor! One very unique part of Abuse is its multiplayer capability. Over a network, you can play up to eight others!
